Self-Guided Tour
Welcome to Prince of Peace Cathoilic Community. We are proud of our award winning church and are grateful for those who made it possible. We are especially grateful to the American Bishops who gave us the remarkable document Art and Environment in Catholic Worship and to the liturgical scholars who provided the insights for that document. We thank Gary Cunningham and his associates who provided the creativity and architectural skills that made our church one of the most important architectural events in the Dallas metroplex in 1994. We also note our Building Committee. They gave many hours of their time and much loving care to the arduous process of planning and building our church. We are grateful to the members of the Community who provided the funds and who, when they gather for Sunday worship, are the "living stones"that form the true and authentic Church.
A church building does not truly become a church until the assembly gathers to celebrate. What the assembly does in that space is critical and all design decisions must be based on that activity. "Art and Environment in Catholic Worship"points out to us that what a church building looks like is not important as long as it facilitates the liturgical actions of the Community. When a design promotes good liturgy, it is successful. When it also includes beauty and simplicity it is a major event. We feel that we have combined both. This has been recognized by professional organizations and publications.
We present this "tour" with the prayer that it will help you understand the reasons behind some of the decisions made in the design process. We believe that our church reflects the wisdom that flows from the liturgical renewal affirmed by the Second Vatican Council.
