WHO WE ARE and WHAT WE DO
St. Vincent de Paul Society is a worldwide Catholic organization founded in Paris, France, in 1833. Today, at Prince of Peace, lay men and women continue the original mission of service to those in need within our parish boundaries. Donations from the parish and individuals provide monetary assistance for rent, utilities, and other necessities. Our focus is person-to-person contact to determine the best financial and emotional support during a challenging time.
HOW WE PROVIDE SERVICE
A “neighbor in need” completes an application which is the starting point for contact in our ministry. We work one-on-one through phone calls and a home visit to understand the full scope of the requested assistance. Our ministry uses group networking, a list of resources and other guidelines to determine the best assistance available.
HOW TO VOLUNTEER
We meet in the parish Welcome Center, second floor, on the second and fourth Mondays each month for a group rosary (6:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.) and meeting (6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.). Our summer calendar varies with this schedule.
We warmly welcome those interested to attend a meeting, get to know us and join our ministry! You may also contact us at svdp@popplano.org
HOW TO DONATE
Donations are critical to relieve the difficulty individuals and families experience in a crisis. The following examples show how generous contributions can support others in our parish boundaries:
· $100 provides basic household necessities
· $500 pays for one-month COBRA or health insurance payment
· $1000 helps toward rent or a mortgage payment
