The July 2023 Prince of Peace Family of the Month is the Wayne and An Chen Family. This Award recognizes the Chen Family for making significant contributions to Prince of Peace and for being a faithful Catholic family.
Wayne and An were the second couple married at the newly opened Prince of Peace Catholic Community sanctuary in 1994, almost 29 years ago. They are examples of good Catholics who practice their faith.
Wayne has served as a Eucharistic Minister since 1994 and became a Coordinator for Eucharistic Ministers in 1997. As a Coordinator he prepares the credence table with the chalices (cups), ciboria (bowls), hosts, wine purificators, and other items needed to celebrate the Liturgy, and ensures that there are sufficient Eucharistic Ministers for the Mass. During the week, Wayne serves as a Sacristan for two or three Masses, which additionally includes the setup of the House of God’s Glory (HOGG) facility every Saturday and Monday morning until the renovations are completed. More recently, for about two years, he is a Senior Acolyte for Sunday Mass as well as special Masses (Healing Mass, funerals and school Mass).
In January of this year, Wayne received the Bishop’s Award for Service to the Church from Bishop Edward Burns.
An has served as an usher for about 25 years, now primarily at the Sunday 10:00AM Mass. She also, in the past, was the Baptism Coordinator and served in this function for 10 years.
Wayne and An usually attend daily Mass and on Saturdays bring Wayne’s elderly parents to Prince of Peace to attend Sunday Mass.
Wayne and An, you are highly appreciated for your broad support to Prince of Peace. Please join me in congratulating and honoring the faith and service of the Wayne and An Chen family, the July 2023 Prince of Peace Family of the Month.
