Our Family of the Month for September 2023 is the Walsh Family, selected based upon their service to the Knights of Columbus, to the Prince of Peace Catholic Community and to the Diocese of Dallas.
Tom & Tara Walsh have been attending Prince of Peace for over 22 years. The Prince of Peace Catholic Community is very special to the Walsh family. Tara Walsh went through RCIA at PoP and became Catholic in 2002. She was also a member of CRHP #5. Both of their daughters have received their sacraments here and attended Prince of Peace School from pre-K thru graduation from Eighth Grade. Mary Beth graduated from Ursuline Academy in 2021 and is now a junior at TCU. Kate is a current junior at Ursuline.
Tom is a member of the Knights of Columbus and has been involved in various fund-raising efforts for the Knights. Tom also serves as lector and was one of 15 parishioners who joined the Building Committee to advise on the future needs of PoP. In the summer of 2019, Tom agreed to be the co-chair of the Capital Campaign with Deacon Joe Coleman and helped lead one of the most successful Capital Campaigns ever conducted by a parish in the Diocese of Dallas. Tom’s activities are not limited to Prince of Peace. He serves as a Member of the Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas Board of Trustees. He remains in support of Ursuline Academy where he Chaired the Ursuline Parent Campaign. But most notably, for the past 26 years, he has volunteered to be the play-by-play radio announcer for the Jesuit football games.
Tara has spent the last 20 years staying home to raise their daughters while actively volunteering at their Catholic schools and other non-profits. Her roles have included, but are not limited to, Parent Volunteer Board Co-President, Parish Liaison, and too many homeroom committees to count at Prince of Peace Catholic school. She is currently serving as St. Ursula’s Closet Chair at Ursuline Academy. She also previously co-chaired the Ursuline Academy auction in support of scholarships. She has most recently joined the St. Mary of Carmel School board. She especially loves volunteering with her daughters and husband.
